TEMAC is a club for electric powered radio control model flyers. TEMAC is a registered and chartered club with the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada. TEMAC leases a 3-acre field in Stoufeville, Ontario (about a half-hour north of central Toronto) where our flying season is from early spring to late fall. Members are required to have MAAC membership/insurance, must have their "wings" or pilot’s certificate to fly their models without supervision, and are entitled to free instruction and training in order to learn how to fly and acquire their pilot’s certificate, or simply to improve their skills.
TEMAC is currently accepting new memberships and renewals. Membership is $80 per calendar year, which includes a one year membership in the Electric Model Flyers Association of Southern Ontario, which produces an informative newsletter and promotes electric flight activities. There is a one-time initiation fee of $30 for all new memberships or expired memberships as of Jan. 1, 2005, to help with field expenses. Junior membership (under 18 years of age) is still offered free with a parent who is a member.
History
Fall 2003 to Summer 2004
A small group of electric radio control enthusiasts (who happen to be MAAC and EMFSO members) decided to form a new radio control model airplane and model helicopter flying club, on a rented property north of Toronto (near the intersection of Kennedy and Stouffville). The club was to be organized and maintained by a small group of directors strictly for the use of MAAC insured radio control flyers, who may only use electric motor propelled model aircraft. Membership was offered to MAAC members with their "wings"; who have acquired the accepted level of skill to safely and under their control, have a model aircraft take off, fly in a circular pattern around the field, fly away and towards themselves, and land the aircraft.
Any new pilot who does not have MAAC recognized wings but is a member of MAAC, can join the club, and fly his or her model with the aid of any member who has his wings. Once competent, wings will be awarded to new members by a valid instructor. The intention here is simply to provide a welcome environment for electric model enthusiasts to fly their models in a quiet and safe area.
TEMAC is a MAAC registered and chartered club, with regulations tailored specifically for radio control electric model flight at this location. This means that all members fly according to MAAC safety regulations, and all parties are insured. TEMAC is run as a complimentary entity to the EMFSO. TEMAC will takes care of all responsibilities related to outdoor flying at this field, awarding "pilots wings" and maintaining the field; EMFSO reports on TEMAC activities in the EMFSO newsletter, provides space on this website, and promotes TEMAC. All TEMAC members must be MAAC members.
The driving effort to get this flying field from a long time point of discussion to a reality, was put forward by Michael Rogozinsky. In order to start as quickly as possible, Michael has named 5 others as directors of this club. TEMAC is in the process of being incorporated; club bylaws and rulles are being established, and once the club is up and running (and is in a good financial position, at the discretion of the directors) a new formal executive will be elected by members of the club. The field is located on the south side of Stoufville Road, approx. ½km east of Kennedy Road, just east of the Kennedy Road and Stoufville Road intersection. The a 3 acre field comprises our parking area, pits, and runway. There is a large area surrounding for flying. The field has been cleaned and levelled, and is mowed from Spring to mid October. The field is expected to be improved on a yearly basis. Fencing and a fequency board have been installed.
