RPAS Wilco application article on latest MAC magazine
« on: August 16, 2021, 01:43:04 pm »
I've already downloaded the UAV tool and use it to check on the latest field conditions at Crosswinds Field.

The one mentioned posted in MAC Canada (RPAS WILCO aka WILCO, if you've downloaded it from the Google or Apple Stores) is supposed to provide information on the field from the viewpoint of flights completed as well as airspace and compliance items such as NOTAMs from the DOT or MAAC.

Downside is that it is aimed at logging flights and maintenance items, so "just checking out the field" is not a workable idea at the mement.  However, as a diary of flights and maintenance/support issues, it does look good.

Since, I'm curently not actively flying, I can't report on usability.

Has anyone done a RPAS Wilco survey on the club field?  What type of airspace are we currently using?

MAAC MPPD18 and trying to figure out where the closest aerodrome is located
« Reply #2 on: February 24, 2023, 03:25:33 pm »
MPPD18 is a new policy document from MAAC and the moanrs and whailers on RCC have been having a field day about whether or not it is a real document and whether or not it is impacting the completing of the SOC recertification of MAAC flying fields.

Trying to find the closest aerodrome or waterdrome to Crosswiinds Field as well as downloading the CFS (I thnk) appendix for the latest aerodrome list and loations has been a fruitless excursion in futility, so I asked a question on RCC where you  can get the list, and it turns out to be the Roger Wilco app. Don't use Google as it comes up with King City Airport being the closest, but a little digging on Goggle for King City Airport comes up with the fact that it no longer is active and hasn't been in existance for years. https://militarybruce.com/long-closed-airport-in-king-township-disappears-from-the-landscape/

Looked up the field (corner of routes 53 -- Duffferin and 14 -- Kirby), and then enabled the RPAS WILCO application on my cellphone. Disabling the Airspace > 400ft AGL layer and enabling the other two layer types gives aerodromes in the vicinty and the airspace restrictions that stat from ground level. Enabling the Airspace > 400ft AGL gives at least a half dozen sirspace restrictions that start at 22ft AGL, well above what MAAC allows without an exemption.

What does this mean relative to MPPD18? WE don't have to fill in hte paperwork since we are more than 3 nautical miles from anything listed in the CFS appendix, and save teh club's Executive from a whole mess of paperwork.

BTW, as of today, we still haven't got our SOC certitification nor has anyone in any zone since Jn 28th.
