Winter building projects - who is doing what?
« on: November 19, 2019, 11:32:41 pm »
After last Saturday's meeting, I went downstairs and pondered what I could build to keep my hand in. Building a standard old-style (read 1980's built-up structure) didn't turn my crank though I do have a plane that I'd picked up at the Aurora Swap Meet a while ago (needs receiver and speed controller). I considered another Avro Arrow of various possible construction but nothing sparked a do-me intention.

I considered the kits at hand and decided against doing them -- needed new batteries, speed controllers, receivers..... NAH!

I pulled out my plan sets and considered them as well, and generally rejected things for much the same reasons.

I pulled out a plan copied from RC Model Flyer, # MF182, a Pete Lewis design for a Europfighter Typhoon, using a 50mm fan unit and a 25-amp speed controller -- got both, and the 50mm fan unit uses a 3S battery pack, possibly enough.  I even checked to see if I have enough boards of balsa to build it, then found that my boards were not striAGHT.

I then looked at my pile of Depron sheets and Dollar Tree foam.  Started cutting the foam tonight for the basis of the wing. Pictures to follow shortly.

So, I'm building.

What's in YOUR workshop and on your bench?
