Air Racing and Friendly Competition
The Oakville Electric Fun Fly 2014 attracted 4 air race competitors and their Formosa racers. The event took place after lunch in brilliant sunshine at Drumquin Park. Flight conditions were ideal with the exception of a moderate 10 kilometer per hour crosswind. The competitors for the first race of the season were Don Irvine, Dennis Milenkovic, Clair Murray and Isaac Murray. Unfortunately, during a test flight Dennis' racer was damaged and unable to be repaired in time for racing.
The first race was a warm up two cell class featuring Don's newly minted Camo 2, Clair's Lucky Number 11 and Isaac's Blue 4. Since it was the first race of the season the flying start was more than exciting. After launching it was quick dash to the start line and Trevor Watson in his debut as Race Marshall called "We have a race!" as everyone headed into turn one. After six intensive laps of two cell racing, the result was too close to call for first and second place.
Two Cell Race Results
Heat One...
Don Irvine and Isaac Murray, Tied for FIRST PLACE!
Clair Murray, SECOND.
The excitement in heat two intensified because of the close finish in the first race. The flying start was again clean. Then in turn one of the third lap, Isaac's Blue 4 was caught in a downdraft and pancaked into the turf. He was out of the race as the other competitors flew a clean race to the finish line.
Heat Two...
Don Irvine, FIRST
Clair Murray, Second
Isaac Murray, DNF
Three Cell Race Results
Heat One...
Isaac Murray, FIRST.
Don Irvine, SECOND
The extra cell in the three cell class boosts the air speed, especially at full throttle. The first heat was clean from start to finish and even though Don was in the hunt for a win, Isaac prevailed on the final lap.
Heat Two...
Isaac Murray, FIRST
Don Irvine, SECOND
The second and feature heat of three cell racing wrapped up the competition for the day.
On behalf of EMFSO Air Racing, a special thank you is extended to OMFC and to Denis Loo, Coordinator of the Fun Fly for providing a race site and time slot for the first air race of 2014.

Clair:
Thanks for posting the pictures. That was the most fun I have had flying a plane, ever. I have sorted the drop in power at the 6 lap interval. Hope that the August get together at Burlington will be a success. My Formosa is always in the car when I travel to clubs just in case. See you soon.
